A collision is an event in which signals from two devices are sent on the same network segment at the same time and interfere with one another. When a collision occurs, the data must be sent again. To ensure that the data doesn't collide again, each device waits a random amount of time before resending the data. Collisions slow down communications in a network segment, so it is important to take measures to reduce the number of collisions. Source:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Collision_domain |
